Market Condition: Sell / Intraday Bearish
The XAU/USD 30-minute chart shows a softer intraday structure. Price is trading around 4,034.52, below the Donchian Channel midline at 4,050.48, while the upper band stands near 4,075.79 and the lower band near 4,025.17. That placement keeps the near-term bias tilted to the downside.
From a price-action perspective, gold has failed to hold the earlier push into the 4,070–4,090 area and has rolled back toward the lower part of the channel. The first key support is now 4,025. A clean break below that level would expose 4,000 next, followed by 3,990. On the upside, the first resistance sits at 4,050, with a stronger recovery barrier in the 4,060–4,076 zone. As long as price stays below the channel midpoint, rebounds still look corrective rather than trend changing.
Momentum is weak but not fully washed out. The stochastic oscillator is trying to recover from lower levels, which raises the risk of a short bounce, but the broader intraday structure still favors sellers unless price reclaims 4,050 decisively.
Fundamental Note:
The latest gold backdrop remains fragile. Reuters reported on June 29 that spot gold fell 0.9% to $4,049.90 and was headed for a fourth consecutive monthly loss, down more than 10% for June, as Gulf tensions fed inflation worries and strengthened expectations for U.S. Federal Reserve rate hikes. Reuters added that markets were pricing three possible Fed hikes this year, including a 61% chance of one in September.
Reuters also reported on June 26 that spot gold rose 1.3% to $4,077.64 after softer U.S. inflation data weakened the dollar somewhat, but bullion was still on track for a fourth straight weekly loss and had hit a seven-month low earlier in the week. The same report said demand in China stayed subdued. That combination suggests short-term rebounds are possible, but the broader macro tone is still not clearly supportive for gold.
Possible Market Effect:
If XAU/USD breaks below 4,025, the move could accelerate selling toward the 4,000 psychological zone and keep pressure on the broader precious-metals complex. If gold reclaims 4,050 and then pushes above 4,076, the immediate bearish pressure would begin to ease.
Trading Signal:
Signal: Sell on rebound
Entry: 4,042
Stop Loss: 4,056
Take Profit 1: 4,025
Take Profit 2: 4,000
This setup favors a controlled bearish intraday trade because price is below the Donchian midline, the latest swing structure is pointing lower, and the fundamental backdrop still leans against non-yielding assets. A sustained move above 4,056 would weaken the bearish setup materially.
