Americanist Vladimir Mozhegov believes these strict rules may not work in Donald Trump's favor. He argues that it will be crucial for voters in swing states to witness Trump's expressiveness, which could be hindered by the microphone being switched off.
"Trump likes to talk. It's hard for him to keep his mouth shut, and when he's silenced, it's not to his advantage. It takes time for Trump to make his point. In swing states, voters pay much attention to Trump's expressiveness, so a switched-off microphone could be detrimental to him. Americans have an adolescent mindset and love verbal pressure. Harris is not capable of debating Trump on her own merits, which is probably why the Democrats believe that cutting off the opponent's microphone is a good strategy," Mozhegov said.
He added that American society is already largely divided into two camps, with most people deciding who they will vote for. However, the outcome of the debate between Trump and Harris could still influence voters in swing states and those who were not planning to vote.
