Summary
The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged on Wednesday and reaffirmed its forecast for two rate cuts this year, despite acknowledging a more challenging inflationary environment.
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) maintained the benchmark interest rate within the range of 4.25% to 4.5%, marking the third consecutive meeting without a change. Policymakers see no immediate urgency to adjust monetary policy, given persistent inflation, a resilient labor market, and ongoing trade policy uncertainties.
Despite inflationary pressures, Fed officials still project the benchmark rate to decline to 3.9% by year-end, consistent with their December forecast, implying two rate cuts. The outlook for 2026 and 2027 remains at 3.4% and 3.1%, respectively.
