Daily Market Overview
Global markets remain in a clear risk-off mode. The Federal Reserve kept the fed funds target range at 3.50%–3.75%, while the Bank of Japan held its policy rate at 0.75%. The message from both central banks was cautious, with investors increasingly worried that the energy shock will keep inflation sticky and delay easing.
The main driver today is oil. After fresh attacks on energy infrastructure in the region, Brent crude rose to about $114.35 and WTI to around $97.36, reinforcing stagflation concerns across global markets.
Equities are under pressure. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 fell 1.4% after the Fed decision, while in Asia, the Nikkei dropped more than 3% and the KOSPI lost about 2.8% as higher oil, firmer yields, and a stronger dollar weighed on sentiment.
In FX and metals, the U.S. dollar index climbed to 100.15, the yen stayed near 160 per dollar, and spot gold fell to $4,764.27/oz, showing that the stronger dollar is outweighing gold’s usual geopolitical support for now.
Crypto is also softer, with Bitcoin around $70,142.
Market takeaway: today’s tone is still defensive. Oil, the dollar, and yields are the three key assets to watch. As long as oil stays elevated and central banks remain cautious, risk assets are likely to stay volatile.
